According to the leakage location of the globe valve, it can be divided into external leakage (leakage at the connection between the packing and the valve body) and internal leakage (failure of the seal between the valve disc and the valve seat). Different leakage locations have different coping methods.
External leakage treatment
1.Leakage at the packing
Cause analysis: wear, aging of the packing or loosening of the gland.
Treatment method: Tighten the gland nut appropriately, but avoid over-tightening that makes the valve stem difficult to operate. Remove the old packing, clean the stuffing box, select the appropriate packing and reinstall it, and tighten it layer by layer. If the packing is insufficient, add an appropriate amount of packing.
2.Leakage at the connection between the valve body and the valve cover
Cause analysis: loose bolts, damaged gaskets or uneven joint surfaces.
Treatment method: tighten the connecting bolts evenly. Remove the damaged gaskets and replace them with new gaskets that meet the requirements. Grind or process the uneven joint surfaces to ensure sealing.
3.Valve body leakage
Cause analysis: The valve body has defects such as sand holes and cracks.
Treatment method: Applicable to small leaks. Clean the leak point and use special adhesives to repair it. For larger leaks, welding can be used for repair, but attention should be paid to welding process and safety. If the defect is serious and cannot be repaired, a new valve body should be replaced.
Internal leakage treatment
1.Damage to the sealing surface
Cause analysis: The sealing surface is worn, corroded or has foreign matter.
Treatment method: Grind the sealing surface to restore its flatness and finish. If the seal is severely damaged, a new seal should be replaced. Open the valve and remove foreign matter on the sealing surface.
2.Damage to valve core or valve seat
Cause analysis: Valve core or valve seat is damaged by erosion and corrosion of the medium.
Treatment method: Repair or replace valve core and valve seat according to the degree of damage. Adjust valve stroke to ensure that the valve core and valve seat fit tightly when the valve is closed.
When dealing with the leakage of globe valve, the upstream and downstream valves should be closed in advance to cut off the source of medium and ensure safe operation. For complex or difficult to deal with leakage problems, it is recommended to be repaired by professionals.
